The complete festival

The Programme

Everything belongs to one programme: the Competitions sector, the Performance Shows sector, the Masterclasses sector, spontaneous Co-creation and the School Exhibition. Each has its own purpose, funding case and schedule, while together they form one festival across three halls.

01 · Judged

Performance Competitions & Awards

The flagship category, staged in two divisions so dancers compete against their own level rather than a single open field.

Qualifying teams prepare a choreographed piece over six to eight weeks, with two mentorship checkpoints from professional partner masters, then perform at the finals in front of the international jury against a fixed rubric.

Awards include Gold, Silver and Bronze in both salsa and bachata, plus special awards for Best Creativity, Best Partnering and Best Innovation.

Division

Professionals

The elite field — international standard, judged against the same rubric used across the European circuit.

Division

Stargate

The development division — rising teams and schools working toward the Professionals standard, supported by the masterclass programme.

Four disciplines

  • Cuban / Calena salsa
  • LA / Mambo inline salsa
  • Bachata sensual
  • Bachata dominican

02 · Judged

Jack & Jill

Professionals and semi-professionals mingle and are randomly paired with a randomly selected song, at both preliminary heats and the final. No offline qualifying round and no choreography period — by design. Judged purely on connection, musicality and improvisation, with its own separate awards.

  • Jack & Jill Bachata — Bachata Hall
  • Heats across days two and three, finals on day three
  • Sign-up on site, no team required

03 · Performance Show

Culture Show

Its own separate performance show — not a segment of the Professional Show and not an interlude between competitions.

Folkloric culture of Latin America and the Caribbean staged as professional performance in its own right: grounded folkloric technique, traditional costume, live cultural expression and the music it belongs to.

Not judged — a performance show in its own right.

On stage

  • Folkloric groups and culture artists
  • Traditional costume and live percussion
  • Own slot in the main arena programme
  • Selected groups are booked and paid by the festival

04 · Performance Show · Live music

Band Show

A separate concert-format performance show built around eight professional live bands, with professional artists dancing alongside them.

Every evening carries two hours of live band music in each hall, with daytime band sets as well. Not judged.

On stage

  • Two hours of live band music every evening, in every hall
  • Daytime band sets alongside the day programme
  • Booked and paid by the festival

05 · Performance Show

Jury Demo Show

The jury masters' own fully prepared performance show. Judges perform to the standard they ask of competitors, then answer for it publicly in an open panel discussion on judging standards, technique and the state of the artform.

Format

  • Prepared, rehearsed performances by the jury
  • Open panel on judging standards afterwards
  • Staged in the main arena on day two
  • Invited and paid by the festival

06 · Development

Masterclass Programme

Master-level teaching in both performance and pedagogy, delivered by the same national and international professionals who form the jury and perform on stage.

Particular focus goes to developing the Stargate division toward the Professionals standard — so that competing at Latin Fire raises the level of the scene year on year rather than only ranking it.

Masterclasses run through day three in the Cuban Salsa and Bachata halls, open to festival visitors as well as competing teams.

  • Pedagogy for teachers and school leaders
  • Choreographic development for teams
  • Stargate development track

07 · Live, spontaneous show

Co-creation

Co-creation is a playful live performance made entirely on the spot. Artists meet on stage without choreography or rehearsal and create the show together in that moment.

The music is not disclosed beforehand — sometimes a live band creates it with them. Dancers, culture artists and musicians respond to one another in real time. One hour every evening, on one of the three stages.

A show to enjoy — not a competition and not judged. There is no sign-up: the festival selects and invites the artists.

Format

  • No choreography, no rehearsal, no shared track list
  • One hour every evening
  • Music may be created live by the band
  • By invitation only — artists are chosen by the festival

08 · Performance Show · Schools

School Exhibition

Dance schools bring their students and groups to the stage across all three festival days — from beginner classes to advanced teams, in their own exhibition slots.

Not judged and no competition pressure: it is the moment students perform in the same arena as the professionals they came to watch.

On stage

  • Open to schools, student groups and academies
  • Slots across all three festival days
  • Every level welcome

Jury & scoring

Jury score & audience vote

Three competition formats carry a live audience vote alongside the jury rubric. Every ticket holder can vote once per category from their phone during the voting window; results are shown on the arena screens the moment voting closes.

Voting runs through LatinFire.AI — one verified vote per ticket, no repeat voting, live tallies for the production team. The performance shows, Co-creation and the Jury Demo Show are not voted or judged.
